Spiritual Community

Christianity is relational.  We are individuals, but we are also part of the body of Christ.  Our gifts and graces are meant to be shared in community.

The Academy for Spiritual Formation creates community through shared acts of worship, learning, prayer, silence, reflection, fellowship, and covenant groups.  Community members (both lay and clergy) journey together toward a deepening relationshp with God and with each other.  This takes place in Five-Day Academies, in Two-Year Academies, and through ongoing friendships.

While on-line community is no replacement for physical community, we do hope that the offerings below can be tools that help draw people into and nurture a more holistic life with God and build a network of relationships that help to sustain us so that we can collectively be the presence of Christ in the world.

Spiritual Practices

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.  (Acts 2:42 NRSV)

Regular spiritual practice (both personal and communal) is fundamental to a life with God.  The Academy for Spiritual Formation helps participants develop a rhythm of spiritual practices that sustain, strengthen and encourage.  As those practices are taken into a participant's life, they provide light and leaven to others.

The ways of opening oneself to God are as varied as are God's people.  In this space, we hope to point you to resources that will help you find the spiritual practice(s) that speak to you where you are in this moment of your life.  Enjoy exploring!

Community doesn’t end when you graduate from the Academy.  We are developing a section of our website that will be available only to graduates of the Two-Year Academy so that you can network with other Academy Forum members, share ideas, pictures, access newsletters, etc.  This is a work in progress.  We will notify Academy Forum members when this feature is available for registration.  In the meantime, feel free to share your ideas for this space by contacting the Academy office and enjoy our new website.  There is also a new Academy Facebook page that you can follow to get the latest updates.  Please help us spread the word about the Academy's updated digital presence!
